Press Release
Tracer Repair & Overhaul and Messier Bugatti Complete Ownership Transaction of MBT
MILWAUKEE, Feb. 9, 2010 -- Tracer Repair & Overhaul, a provider of commercial aviation aftermarket parts and military aviation wheel and brake repair and management services, announced the sale of its remaining shares in Messier-Bugatti-Tracer (MBT) to Messier Bugatti, a division of SAFRAN, a world leader in the aerospace industry.
Messier-Bugatti-Tracer (MBT), a joint venture of Tracer R&O and Messier Bugatti, was formed in 2003 and has become a market leader, providing comprehensive wheel and brake services to the North American commercial aviation industry. MBT is also the sole provider of wheel and brake repair and overhaul services for the United States Air Force's C-17 Globemaster transport.
Bill Morales, MBT Founder and CEO of Tracer R&O said, "One of MBT's great strengths has been the blending of Tracer R&O's aftermarket know-how with Messier Bugatti's OEM power. So this deal is good news for both Tracer and MBT—the customers win and both organizations can focus on their core competencies.
Frank Mocilnikar, formerly the Chief Administration Officer and Deputy to the President of Airfoil Technologies International has been appointed President of MBT. Mocilnikar, an aviation veteran, has been in the aerospace industry for 16 years and now resides in Milwaukee. MBT is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Messier Bugatti.

Airplane repair contract lands Milwaukee firm to fix Spirit's wheels, brakes
Last Updated: April 14, 2003
A Milwaukee company that repairs airplane wheels and brakes has landed a $12 million contract from Florida-based Spirit Airlines.
The company is Messier-Bugatti-Tracer, formerly Tracer Repair & Overhaul. Under its five-year contract with Spirit, about half of the work will be done in Milwaukee and half in Miami.
This is the second major contract announcement for Messier-Bugatti-Tracer, which in February said it signed a five-year agreement to repair wheels and brakes of C-17 military transport airplanes.
The Milwaukee company also has been awarded a smaller, one-year contract to do wheel and brake repairs for Zoom Airlines, based in Ottawa, and it has been hired to do similar work for a fleet of Boeing 727-200s operated by Kitty Hawk Aircargo.
Messier-Bugatti-Tracer officials would not reveal dollar amounts of the military, Zoom and Kitty Hawk contracts.
But the company expects about $30 million in sales in 2004, compared with roughly $7.5 million in 2002 for the former Tracer Repair & Overhaul.
The company has added a second shift at its plant on the city's north side and has already started work for Spirit Airlines.
"We seem to be doing OK with the small airlines right now," said Barry Wightman, a Messier-Bugatti-Tracer vice president.
As early as the fall, the company plans to open a wheel shop in Las Vegas to service West Coast airlines, including freight carriers.
"We have a number of prospective clients in the West, and a shop there will help solidify that business," Wightman said.
The war with Iraq and other world events could boost the amount of C-17 military work. The C-17 is heavily used by the U.S. military and has moved troops and Apache helicopters from Fort Campbell, Ky., to remote bases in eastern Afghanistan.
"In months ahead, we will see the C-17 work as the wear and tear on these airplanes starts to show," Wightman said.
A version of this story appeared in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on April 15, 2003.
